Ploughing Match 2023 – Ploughing a Prayerful Path
The annual ploughing championship takes place this week, Tuesday to Thursday, in Ratheniska, Portlaoise. The diocese of Kildare and Leighlin will host a stand (Stand 291) where they will highlight some ancient ritual customs such as the making of St Brigid’s crosses and the distribution of Blessed Salt. There will be a prayer wall for petitions as well as a quiet space in the middle of the field. ‘Ireland’s Favourite Hymn’ is one of several initiatives being taken by the diocese during the Ploughing Championship. Visitors to the stand will also be invited to help create a woollen mural depicting the logo of the synod.
