The first phase of repairing the kneelers of the seating of cathedral will commence during this coming week. The kneelers in the seating in the centre aisle of the cathedral will be replaced. New boards will be attached to the seating by hinges which will assist cleaning
Secondly, the seating will be secured in place by dowels which will ensure that the seating does not move on the floor; this will avoid scratching the beautiful parquet floor of the cathedral.
New carpet will also be placed on the steps of the high altar; a similar colour to that upon which the Cathedra (Bishop’s Chair) sits.
Financially this is expensive. If you would like to assist with this work, please use the envelopes at the back of the church – no donation is too small; every little helps.
In time it is intended to replace the kneelers in the other aisles.
