Archbishop Dermot Farrell returned to Kilkenny on 9th November for an evening of celebration with the priests and people of the diocese of Ossory. Archbishop Farrell was translated to Dublin in February after three years as Bishop of Ossory. The diocesan clergy presented Archbishop Farrell the Dictionary of Irish Biography, The History of the Archbishops of Dublin since the Reformation and Collections on Irish Church History. The latter book was written by Mgr Laurence Renehan who like Archbishop Farrell was President of Maynooth College. The History of The Archbishops of Dublin was written by Patrick Francis Moran. Moran was Vice Rector of the Irish College in Rome and was appointed Bishop of Ossory in 1864; Archbishop Farrell had also been a member of the staff of the Irish College in Rome and also was Bishop of Ossory. The Dictionary of Irish Biography is published by Cambridge University Press. Presented also was a revolving bookcase made by local cabinet maker Liam Roberts. The Bookcase has a decorative glass top on which is inscribed the names of the 42 parishes of the diocese.
